Good News for Coffee Drinkers

Coffee with Caffeine

Some people may believe that coffee isn't good for their health but in moderation coffee can actually have its benefits and advantages.

Coffee contains caffeine which can make us more mentally alert. The caffeine stimulates the central nervous system which can combat fatigue and tiredness. Studies have shown that those who regularly drink coffee with caffeine score higher in IQ tests, concentrate better and are more effective when recalling information.

Coffee andAlzheimer's Disease

Evidence shows that drinking coffee which contains caffeine has a positive effect on the memory, and may prevent it to deteriorate. According to research, drinking three large cups of coffee a day can delay the chance of cognitive decline seen in Alzheimer's Disease. This is a form of dementia which affects short term memory and changes behavior and ability.

There has also been a link between caffeine and Parkinson's Disease. Parkinson's disease affects the function of neurons and as caffeine normalises brain function, drinking coffee may be able to prevent this neurological degenerative disease as well.

Coffee can Prevent Cancer?

Caffeine is full of antioxidants called Polyphenols, which have health benefits and can even prevent certain types of cancer. These include prostate, neck, breast and head cancers and it is also said that caffeine can cut down the risk of liver cancer by almost half.

The other good news about drinking moderate amounts of coffee include:

  • Easing muscle aches and pains after exercise and intense training. Just one or two cups after working out can help relax and restore muscles.
  • It is said that drinking coffee can lower the risks of developing type 2 diabetes. Caffeine has been found to prevent the development of high blood sugar levels and improve sensitivity to insulin.
  • Coffee can be used as a laxative to those suffering from constipation.
  • Drinking coffee can help reduce headaches and also improve concentration.

There have been many other claims to the benefits of drinking coffee such as helping depression, lowering the risk of stroke, and gallstone disease. For coffee lovers, this is all good to hear. But there are downsides too, such as high blood pressure and anxiety.

Keep it balanced, and enjoy your cuppa - guilt free!
